Art Print - Ron Toombs Bathurst 1979

John Ford image printed on 250gsm Kodak paper:

When Ron Toombs announced he was returning to contest the 1979 Easter Bathurst races after four years away from racing the news parked a sense of surprise ‒ and trepidation. Toombs had just turned forty-six. He was continuing his successful career as a construction manager for Meriton, the burgeoning Sydney property development company established by Harry Triguboff, who was on his way to becoming a billionaire. Toombs was a keen soccer dad, watching his thirteen-year-old son Warren win a bagful of grand finals in the Gladesville-Hornsby Football Association junior soccer competition.

Ron had played soccer at state level, and given his well-renowned competitive race record spanning twenty-five years, everyone knew he wouldn’t be there to parade around the daunting Mount Panorama circuit. He would race head-long aboard a new Yamaha TZ350F running monoshock suspension and grippy slick tyres.
